Ozen overwater bungalow

Ozen Maldives -Pure Paradise

To celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary my husband & I went to the Maldives.

The Maldives had been on our bucketlist for sometime & while it was expensive, it was worth every cent in luxury, relaxation & memories that we will treasure forever.

After researching  all the accommodation options & costs, we decided to stay at Ozen.  The main reasons we went with Ozen was:

a) it’s new – opened July 2016

b) it has an underwater restaurant M6M (minus 6 metres – below sea level), which was an experience that we wanted.

c) it is truly an all-inclusive resort, which when you start researching the Maldives you quickly discover that there are often a lot of hidden costs; i.e., a lot of the resorts don’t include the taxes or transfers in the initial cost.  Ozen included all meals & drinks including alcohol and all non motorized water sports.  Taxes and transfers are also included.

We stayed at the wind villa with pool.  This is their premium overwater bungalow, and it was absolutely fantastic.  We felt relaxed within an hour of our arrival.  The crystal blue waters are so calming.

The villa was really well appointed, and included a very well stocked mini bar that was replenished daily.

The quality of the food at the 5 restaurants and 2 bars was excellent – fresh produce, well prepared and beautifully presented.  The staff we excellent.  On the first morning at breakfast, I ordered my coffee.  As a Melbournian, I am very particular about my coffee.  I only have one cup a day – but I do like it strong.  As well, I like to have ice in my morning juice.  On the very next day, we went to breakfast & not only did the staff know where we preferred to sit, but they had already ordered my coffee just the way I like it.  Soon thereafter, a fresh container of ice arrived at the table without even a request for such.  Now that’s service in my books.  Our experience at the bar was the same.  We ordered our favourite home-developed cocktail on the first day,   Thereafter the staff knew just how we wanted it mixed and presented – every time we ordered it again.

For us the underwater restaurant experience was amazing.  The view was beautiful, the service was excellent & the meal was a seven course seafood degustation menu paired with matching wines.

This meal we will never forget.  We decided to go for lunch instead of dinner.  The lights at night attract a lot of plankton.  This reduces the visibility.  Viewing of the beautiful fish is just so much better under natural daylight conditions.

The daily yoga class, which started at 7am was a wonderful way to start the day, even if it was a little early for my holiday brain.  I yearned for a slightly later start time.

The were a lot of activities to do apart from yoga.  There was a well appointed gym, snorkeling, paddle boating, canoeing, fishing, sunset cruise, dolphin watching, scuba diving.

We stayed 6 days and wished we stayed longer…. A fellow well-travelled guest at the Ozen Resort summed it up perfectly.  She said “Now I really know what Paradise is”.
